16 of the Dumbest Things Americans Believe -- And the Right-Wing Lies Behind Them | | AlterNet

Americans are often misinformed, occasionally downright dumb, and easily misled by juicy-sounding rumors. But while the right wing is taking full advantage of this reality, the Left worries that calling out lies is "rude."
Remember when Congressman Joe Wilson stood up during Obama's State of the Union address and shouted "You lie"? He was chastised soundly by the pundit class. But mostly he drew heat for being impolite, and was compared to Kanye West and other famous interrupters.
Revisiting Wilson's foolish tirade underscores the state of our upside-down political world. Wilson shouted "you lie" in the face of truth, but President Obama is hesitant to speak up when he's being slandered with bald, glaring untruths. The dark irony will continue as the Republicans take over the House this winter and the rumors and insinuations from extremist right-wing pundits keep circulating.

I think all parties need to stop the games and put the business of the people first.

I think what Wilson did typifies the lack of respect that has been shown to President Obama since taking office. The attacks have been more personal many times rather than on policy. People have always become disenchanted because of policy, but because of the lies put out by the right wing media and the behavior of many of those running for office for or even in office, the attacks have become increasingly more personal. This of course is because they have no answers to the policies they purport to object to so they fall to personal attacks. They have created divisions the like of which I have never seen before. It is so disgusting. There should be a policy about putting in the media provable lies.

If they were to do that, what will happen to the 24hr news program? Civility is a thing of the pass and the only agenda that's being met is that of these parties. Republicans aren't real. Democrates aren't real. Independants aren't real. Neither are Tea Partiers. Yet these groups claim to represent those whose ideals are like theirs. But once in office it doesn't take long for the petty bickering to begin under the guise of they're doing what the "people" want.

Who are these "people"? It seems to me everytime a party thinks they have made in-roads into the other parties agenda; the "people" change. But you know the people, the real people, are doing the best they can to provide for their family and their selves. They are so busy trying to provide a stable reality for their selves and family, that a lot of things are pushed in their name...the name of the "people" and they don't realize it. And the games keep getting played. While the beast of us against them, keeps getting fed.

They lied. The mainstream media did not do their job and correct them. The White House was too polite—"civil," just like Obama promised—to say much. So people believed the lie.”

This sums up the problem right here!!

Redsfan, that's because the media is part of the problem. They serve for entertainment purposes only. If the truth happens to fit their entertainment needs at the moment, then they'll go for the truth. But if lies and misinformation suits their needs better...then lies and misinformation it is.

As for Obama's White House, lies need to be dealt with right away. There is also no time for "humility". You need to show what you've accomplished because in this day and age, holes or silence in your communications will be filled by the other guy.
